Fighting hunger in Slovenia
May 2014, Slovenia
In May 2014, Embracing the World volunteers in Slovenia donated 10,000 kilos (more than 10 tons) of rice and pasta to families in need through the ‘Friends of Youth’ organization.
Br. Shubamrita Chaitanya formally handed over a check, which symbolized the value of the food donation, to the Friends of Youth representative. The food staples were then distributed across the country in the cities of Ljubliana, Maribor, Novo Mesto, Šentjur and Carinthia.
In line with Embracing the World’s philosophy of doing more with less, our volunteers worked diligently to source the most affordable yet nutritious staple foods. They then organized the transportation and delivery of the food to collection centers throughout Slovenia. Friends of Youth contacted the families, arranging convenient times and pick-up locations for the recipients to collect the donated food.
The main organizer, Zoran Loboda, indicated that many recipients suffer from the negative stigma associated with poverty. As with all our projects, we are committed to serving our beneficiaries with love and respect, and aim to preserve their dignity and self-confidence.
